The Consortium for the Sustainable Development of the Andean Eco-region (CONDESAN), host of the global node of the Mountain Forum, with financial support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), organised a three-day technical workshop on the Mountain Knowledge Hub (MKH) in Aeschi B Spiez, Berne, Switzerland from 20-22 July 2011. The workshop was attended by representatives of the members of the Mountain Partnership Consortium (MPC), a consortium of sustainable mountain development (SMD) stakeholders working at the global and regional level and contributing towards effective partnership building and knowledge exchange to advocate for the Mountain Agenda. It includes the Mountain Forum (MF); the Mountain Partnership Secretariat (MPS); and the Mountain Research Initiative (MRI). It is supported by SDC; CONDESAN; MRI; the International Mountain Society (IMS)/ Centre for Development and Environment (CDE); the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO); the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Vienna; the University of Central Asia  (UCA); and ICIMOD. Once developed, The Mountain Knowledge Hub is expected to offer a common platform to document, organise, and share news, events, data, information, publications, multi media collections and so on relevant to the mountains. It will also offer virtual discussion platforms, advocacy tools, and an e-learning platform. The next phase of the MKH aims to link the knowledge repositories of all the MPC members, making it a publicly available central collection of mountain knowledge. ICIMOD representatives Mr Daan Boom, Integrated Knowledge Management (IKM) Programme Manager and Mr Tek Jung Mahat, Asia Pacific Mountain Network (APMN) Node Manager, have been contributing to the development of this platform since the very beginning, and also attended this recent meeting.
