Bhutan: Tigers' Sanctuary Under Threat

The Department of Forest and Park Services (DoFPS) has denied clearance to the Ministry of Works and Human Settlement (MoWHS) for the construction of Shingkhar-Gorgan Secondary Highway (km) that will cut through the Thrumshingla National Park, a core tiger habitat.  Of the approved 67 kilometers (km) of road, 36 km (s) will pass through the tigers’ sanctuary. The Manager of Thrumshingla National Park, Ratu Wangchuk said that the area is critical to ensure the survival of the Royal Bengal Tiger and also the preferred habitat of the endangered Red Panda.
