Before moving to Nepal, Sam Inglis worked for a number of NGOs and academic institutions, focusing on environmental issues throughout Asia. He worked most recently as Environment Research Manager for ADM Capital Foundation in Hong Kong, overseeing projects on water security and wildlife crime. He obtained an MSc from the University of Exeter, UK, in 2013, with his research focusing on glacial lake development and glacial lake outburst flood risk assessment in the Indo-Tibetan catchment of the Sutlej River and North Patagonian Icefield. Inglis has previously worked with and written for Columbia University's Earth Institute, Yale University's Program on Climate Change Communication, The Mountain Institute, PeakWater.org, and China Water Risk, among others.
