Pilot Sites

The project interventions will focus on two wetlands that are linked with agriculture, tourism and species conservation.

Wetlands are important ecosystems having diverse ecological role such as nutrient cycling, water cycling, pollutant filtering, and water storage. They serve as a carbon sinks and provide crucial habitats for fish, birds, and other aquatic flora and fauna. There are several types of wetlands in the Eastern Himalayas, from ephemeral streambeds to huge lakes that are fed by either melt water or precipitation. Many of the wetlands in the region are designated as Ramsar sites in recognition of their vital role in maintaining natural processes and providing services.
