Increase in number of vehicles and air pollution in Bhutan

The population of Bhutan is just over 700,000, and it seems like the number of vehicles is catching up. The number more than doubled from over thirty thousand vehicles in 2006 to over eighty thousand in 2016.

The state of the environment report 2016 states that there has been a constant increase in the concentration of (particulate matters) PM10 levels in Thimphu since 2004. PM10 are suspended dust particles in the air that have diameters less than 10µm (micron).

At present, on average, about 28 new cars hit the road every day.
