Ecosystem degradation and livelihoods: Public-private- civil society solutions

Time/date: 14:00-15:30 | 30 August 2016, Tuesday

Venue: Room # NL 357

This session, convened by ICIMOD and partners, aims to explore cross-sectoral solutions to preserve and restore ecosystems and the crucial services they provide. The private sector, which has traditionally been criticised for sacrificing the environment, is now recognised as an essential part of the solution. The same can be said for farmers who, in particular in arid and semi-arid regions, consume large amounts of water, often at the expense of ecosystem integrity, but are now increasingly more involved in restoration measures. We will explore innovative, and potentially highly effective solutions involving the private and public sectors, and civil society.
