ICIMOD at World Water Week 2016

28 Aug - 02 Sep 2016

World Water Week in Stockholm is the annual focal point for global water issues. Organised annually by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), the theme of this year’s week is Water for Sustainable Growth.

David Molden, Director General of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), will lead a five member delegation to the event including senior managers and professionals with relevant thematic expertise from programme and knowledge management and communications.

ICIMOD will draw attention to a range of water-related issues and their impact on the ecosystem of the Hindu Kush Himalayan region. ICIMOD will convene and co-convene various seminars and side events during the week. ICIMOD will organise multiple sessions of the seminar ‘Ecosystem degradation and livelihoods’ covering: the conundrum of economic growth and water’s role in healthy ecosystems for mitigating poverty and achieving the new SDG targets; and cross-sectoral solutions to preserve and restore ecosystems and the crucial services they provide. A special seminar by ICIMOD on ‘Mountains, glaciers and hydropower in a changing climate’, will highlight the role of mountains in providing water, food and energy for sustainable growth using examples from the Himalayas, the Alps and the Andes.

ICIMOD will have an exhibit booth displaying videos and information on climate change impacts, vulnerability and policy measures and adaptation actions with a special focus on water and mountains.

Session details are listed below. We look forward to seeing you all at World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden.
