Knowledge Management and Communication

Debabrat Sukla is a knowledge management and communication officer. In his role as the Knowledge Management Focal Point for the River Basin and Cryosphere Regional Programme, he manages the internal and external communication strategies, and overall knowledge management. His work includes focus on the Indus Basin and Koshi Basin initiatives and the Himalayan, Adaptation, Water, and Resilience (HI-AWARE) Research programme.  

In his role as communication officer for HI-AWARE, he represents the programme through a variety of outreach strategies, which include but are not limited to social media campaigns and other means of repackaging research outputs through infographics and short videos. He is part of the KMC Working Group under the larger research consortium Collaborative Adaptation Research Initiative in Africa and Asia (CARIAA), where he takes part in cross-consortia communication and outreach activities and forums. He also assists the research-into-use component of HI-AWARE, and has co-produced a web-based storymap platform that presents HI-AWARE findings through a combination of map and infographic data. He is involved in a massive open online course (MOOC) on Research for Impact as part of a lesson on impactful research emerging from the CARIAA initiative. 

He holds a Bachelor’s in English Literature from Delhi University and a Master’s in Environmental Science and Development Studies from Ambedkar University, Delhi.

An avid believer in collaborative communication, he continues to study and seek opportunities for co-learning and impactful communication in the realm of climate change science and development. In his free time, he eats lots of food, assists in design and production for a YouTube channel, exercises, reads, doodles, and thinks.
