Alpha Thapa joined ICIMOD in September 2015. She is a researcher with the Atmosphere initiative.

Thapa went to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Karnataka, India, on a Dr Homi J Bhabha scholarship for her MTech in Water and Land Management. Her dissertation focused on the impacts of climate change on surface water dynamics in the Sina Catchment, India, using the SWAT model. She has a BTech in Environmental Engineering from Kathmandu University, Nepal. At ICIMOD, she is working closely with Dr Siva Praveen Puppala on exposure assessment due to indoor air pollutants. Her research interests include indoor air pollution, air pollution control, hydrological modelling, and climate change impact assessment.
