National Workshop on ‘Biodiversity and Our Future’



The Youth Alliance for Environment (YAE), the Climate Himalaya Initiative – Nepal, Youth Network for Social & Environmental Development (YONSED), the Himalayan Alliance for Climate Change (HIMCCA), and SEED-Nepal, together with more than 30 youth organisations, organised a one-day national workshop on ‘Biodiversity and our Future’ on 7 June in Kathmandu, supported by the Asia Pacific Mountain Network-ICIMOD and other national and international conservation organisations. The workshop was one in a series of activities planned by the youth networks under the banner of ‘Eco-festival’ from 22 May (International Day of Biodiversity) to 5 June (World Environment Day, WED) and beyond. The workshop was opened by the Hon Dr Jagdish Chandra Pokhrel, Vice-Chairman, National Planning Commission (NPC), Government of Nepal. Ms Anne Isabella, UNDP-Nepal; Prof Bidur Upadhyaya, Tribhuvan University (TU); Dr Dinesh Bhuju, National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST); and Dr Nakul Chettri, ICIMOD were the resource persons; they emphasised the need for biodiversity conservation in the context of increasing threats of climate change.
