Goals and objectives

Its long-term goal is to help reduce and alleviate poverty among rangeland dependent mountain people and to improve the productivity of rangeland ecosystems in the Hindu Kush-Himalaya-Tibetan plateau region.  The RRP III will build on the experiences and achievements of the first and second phases of the programme and continue to promote ecologically appropriate, socially equitable and gender sensitive innovations for enhancing the livelihood of herders and the conditions of the rangeland ecosystem on which they depend upon with a focus on women and other vulnerable groups.  However, the focal points of the programme will be shifted from policy dialogue to policy amendment/ formulation and up-scaling innovative pastoral development and rangeland management practices.
