HUC concludes interim Steering Committee Meeting

During the two-day meeting, the steering committee members discussed present and future activities for implementing HUC’s strategic plan and vision, and followed up on issues raised during the annual meeting at Lanzhou. The HUC Charter was given a final shape and tentative dates for a High-Level Meeting of Vice Chancellors and Heads of Institutions representing both current and potential members of HUC were proposed.

Dr David Molden, Director General of ICIMOD, facilitated the morning session where participants discussed a range of viable activities for HUC. The afternoon session was devoted to selecting the most resourceful and impactful activities. Committee members gave their commitment to initiating the selected activities.
Other activities HUC has planned for the near future include the Innovative Mountain Fellowship Program, Field schools, University/Institutional Induction, Multimedia Science Talks, as well as discussions on the establishment of a Mountain Chair, Performa for Members, annual meeting and other secretariat-based functions.

Members of the interim committee also reviewed the applications for HUC membership submitted since the 2013 survey, and accepted 13 applicants to become members of HUC.

Detailed information is available at the HUC secretariat.
