Professor Pramod Kumar Aggarwal 

Professor Pramod Aggarwal is Regional Program Leader of the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture, and Food Security.  Before taking on this position, he was ICAR National Professor at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, and Coordinator of the ICAR Network on Climate Change and Agriculture. He was the Coordinating Lead Author for the chapter ‘Food, Fiber, and Forest Products’ of the Fourth Assessment Report (2007) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and a Review Editor for the Fifth Assessment Report.  

He is a member of the editorial board of several journals, including Agricultural Systems, Outlook on Agriculture, Crops and Pastures, World Agriculture, Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences, and Mausam. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India and the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, India. 

Professor Aggarwal holds Ph.Ds from the University of Indore, India, and Wageningen University, the Netherlands. He was recently awarded Ernestoilly Trieste Science Prize by the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) for his work on climate change and agriculture. His research contributions include developing crop growth models for tropical environments; impact assessment of climatic variability and climate change on crops; characterizing risks of yield loss for developing weather derivatives; adaptation strategies; inventories of greenhouse gas emissions; mitigation options; yield gap analysis; genotype of environment by management interactions; yield forecasting; and assessment of yield loss due to pests.
