The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) participated in the First Agri-Flori Expo organized by Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forest (MoFA), Royal Government of Bhutan. The four-day expo from 25 to 28 July was inaugurated by the Honorable Minister for Agriculture and Forest, His Excellency Lyonop Yeshey Dorji, who was also the chief guest at the event. There were participants from India, Nepal and Bhutan. With the help of its knowledge partner, Bhutan Media and Communications Institute (BMCI), ICIMOD gave a live demonstration of static cool chamber and bio-briquette technology, and shared information about kiwi farming, composting, and rainbow trout fish farming. High level policy makers, private entrepreneurs, farmers and students visited the ICIMOD stall. Many individual farmers and private entrepreneurs showed great interest in kiwi cultivation and in using the static cool chamber as zero energy cold storage for vegetables and other fruit products. The agricultural cooperatives and entrepreneurs are now eager to visit ICIMOD Knowledge Park and learn about suitable technologies or best practices that are relevant for Bhutan. The expo also provided a good opportunity to introduce and spread awareness about ICIMOD and its work to the general public.
