Call for submissions for 'Innovative Solutions'

The ‘Mountain People Adapting to Change: Solutions Beyond Boundaries Bridging Science, Policy, and Practice’ international conference will be ICIMOD’s flagship event for the year 2014. Held from 9-12 November in Kathmandu, Nepal, it will bring together over 200 experts and stakeholders from around the globe, including government representatives and dignitaries, high-level donor representatives, and regional and international climate change and adaptation specialists. 

This conference will include a marketplace-style ‘Innovative Solutions’ event as an opportunity to showcase ongoing or recently completed programmes and projects in the Hindu Kush Himalayan region. Presentations can be made as posters, displays, audio-visual exhibitions or interactive activities. Featured programme/project presentations must relate in a fresh and innovative way to adaptation to climate change and/or other drivers of change. Presentations must relate to at least one of of the following themes:  

  • Climate change scenarios, modeling and downscaling for the region;
  • Water availability and demand scenarios;
  • Cryosphere and black carbon;
  • Water management;
  • Ecosystem and community-based adaptation;  
  • Food security, climate smart agriculture;
  • Community vulnerability and adaptation; 
  • Disaster risk management; 
  • Alternative livelihood options;
  • Gender and adaptation;
  • Technology-based solutions for addressing climate change;
  • Communicating climate change and its impact.

Interested organizations should submit a one-page write-up highlighting their programme/project achievements to by 1 September, 2014. Preference will be given to projects/programmes that exhibit cutting-edge approaches to community innovation, gender inclusiveness, and inclusive adaptation practices. A maximum of 20 institutions/programmes/projects will be selected to exhibit their material in the marketplace. It is expected that participants will cover their own costs to attend the conference. 

Please note the Innovative Solutions marketplace is open only to projects conducted in countries in the HKH region (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan).
