Officials trained in GIS & remote sensing


A five-day training workshop titled ‘Use of GIS and Remote Sensing in Agro-ecosystem Monitoring’ was conducted at Mountain Agriculture Research Centre (MARC) in Jaglot, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. 

The training, held from 21 to 25 October 2013, aimed to build capacity of MARC and its associated departments in using earth observation tools and technologies for planning and management of agro-pastoral resources in Gilgit-Baltistan. Eighteen professionals from Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC), Department of Agriculture, Department of Forest, Planning & Development Department, and Karakorum International University participated in the event.  

Inaugurating the training, Director General of MARC Dr Imtiaz Ahmed highlighted the importance of GIS in integrated research and informed decision making. He said it was important for the participants to learn relevant new technologies and foster discussion on their use in respective areas. 

Dr Imtiaz Ahmed acknowledged ICIMOD's support to PARC in promoting the use of GIS and Remote Sensing in Pakistan.
