Fieldwork undertaken for piloting rangeland policy

A team of officials undertook extensive fieldwork for the piloting of participatory community-based management of rangeland resources in Bajhang district, Nepal, under the Kailash Sacred Landscape Conservation and Development Initiative (KSLCDI)

Supported by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), the field trip included an official from the Department of Forest (DoF), Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation, Government of Nepal, and two ICIMOD staff. The trip took place from 22 September to 3 October 2013. The DoF selected Bajhang district for piloting the Nepal Rangeland Policy.

A half-day meeting with stakeholders was organized at Chainpur with support from the District Forest Officer. The meeting identified pilot area, target group and stakeholders, diagnosed institutional strength/deficiency of stakeholders for rangeland management, planned field activities, and suggested a modality to implement the field activities.
