National Youth Forum on Mountain Issues and Post 2015 Development Agenda

Asia Pacific Youth task force on Rio+20 (APYTF), International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) supported initiative, has been involved in the Rio+20 and beyound by mobilizing mountain youth for sustainable mountain development in Asia Pacific in particular and global in general. APYTF has members, ICIMOD alumni, from Pakistan, India, Nepal, Myanmer and Cambodia. APYTF has organized and co-organized a number of events since its formation in April, 2011. In this regard APYTF as co-organizer with ICIMOD and other organizations arranged “Global youth forum on mountain issues and sustainable actions” in June, 2012, as side event during United Nations Conference on sustainable Development (Rio+20) in Brazil; “Post Rio+20- Eco Tourism walk - Promoting Green Economy in Mountain Regions, in Pirchanasi, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK); National Youth Forum on Mountain Issues and Sustainable Actions, 2012 Islamabad; workshop on “Green Economy for Mountain Youth- Beyond Rio+20” during South Asian Youth Conference, 2012 Islamabad; “Global youth forum on Mountain Issues and Green Solutions- from Rio de Jenario to Doha- in November 2013, as side event during United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of Parties (COP) 18; APYTF Myanmar and Nepal teams have organized events to celebrate World Environment Day, ON 5th June, 2013.

With same momentum taking messages from global to local level and raising awareness about sustainable mountain development APYTF is co-organizing 3 days National Youth Forum on Mountain issues and Post 2015 Development Agenda, in Islamabad, with technical and financial support from ICIMOD Nepal, and local organizing partner Mountain & Glacier Protection Organization (MGPO). The event will bring together young scientists, early career professionals, youth initiative leaders and experts from the various parts of the country and develop their knowledge on mountain issues and the Post-2015 Development Agenda as an input towards

global processes on the development of the Post-2015 Development Agenda. It would be a best platform to create a youth knowledge network; to exchange ideas, knowledge and experiences. By the end of the National Youth Forum participants would be able to develop a working strategy for one year how to engage more youth in raising awareness about Sustainable Mountain Development and Post 2015 Agenda.

National Youth Forum 2013 will bring together 30 participants from all over Pakistan, mostly representing mountain areas, who are engaged in sustainability issues. The three-day programme includes capacity building and knowledge exchange sessions, leadership exercises, and excursion to nearby environmental projects.

Objectives

Following are the main objectives of national youth forum;

  1. Youth’s capacity building for identifying locale specific mountain issues and possible solutions and their role in Post 2015 Development Agenda.
  2. Develop a local forum for youth to participate and to engage them in formal activities.
  3. Provide platform to youth to express and discuss their ideas to decision makers and other youth.
  4. Prepare Youth action plan for 2013, and youth declaration.
