The conference will focus on knowledge sharing of issues specific to adaptation to climate change in the Mekong and Salween River basins, and is jointly organized by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the Kunming Institute of Botany (KIB) in Kunming, China.

Organized under the Himalayan Climate Change Adaptation Programme (HICAP), the conference will bring together select researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and experts dealing with mountain ecosystem services, mountain policies, and mountain livelihoods from countries of the Salween and Mekong River basins. The conference will contribute towards building knowledge-based partnerships in the upper and downstream areas of these two river basins.

Objectives of the Conference:

  • Share and analyse case studies to identify key issues concerning ecosystem services and livelihoods in relation to climate change in mountain/upland areas of the Salween and Mekong Rivers as links to current and future national adaptation strategies, and;
  • Identify possible areas for collaboration and synergies on research and demonstration among institutions, and discuss the possible up-scaling of community-based best practices on adaptation in the Salween and Mekong River basins.
