HICAP annual review and planning workshop

Teams from three promoter organizations of the Himalayan Climate Change Adaptation Programme (HICAP) met in Kathmandu, Nepal, for an annual review and planning workshop on 7 and 8 August 2013.

The three promoter organizations of HICAP, a pioneering collaboration aimed at contributing to enhanced resilience of mountain communities, particularly women, through improved understanding of vulnerabilities, opportunities, and potentials for adaptation, are CICERO, ICIMOD, and GRID-Arendal.

At the workshop, seven interlinked components within HICAP - climate change scenarios, water availability and demand scenarios, ecosystem services, food security, vulnerability and adaptation, women in adaptation, and communication and outreach – were assessed and reviewed based on activities carried out in 2013. A detailed work plan with milestones and outputs for 2014 was also developed.

The workshop provided a clear picture of activities and outputs achieved by the promoters within HICAP. It also helped components develop a framework for collaborative field research in the HICAP sub-basins - Upper Indus, Koshi, Upper Brahmaputra, Eastern Brahmaputra, and Upper Salween-Mekong basins.
