Dr. Vanisa Surapipith, a Thai national, is an Atmospheric Scientist with a PhD from the University of East Anglia (UEA) in the United Kingdom. Prior to joining ICIMOD, Dr Surapipith was an Environmentalist, Professional Level, at the Pollution Control Department, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in Bangkok, Thailand. She has over 10 years of experience in setting up the air quality modelling system to support decision/policy making, as well as analysing and researching air quality data to explain issues related to multi-pollutant strategies in various scales from urban and industrial areas to regional and hemispheric transport, including the air pollution interaction with climate change. She has coordinated Thailand Air Pollution Center of Excellence (TAPCE), and has worked in close collaboration with environmental agencies and academic institutes in Asia and around the world. In addition to numerous peer-reviewed publications, she has authored the air quality modeling chapter in Foundation Course Air Quality Management in Asia, funded by Stockholm Environment Institute, and developed the Emission Inventory Course Materials for the ASEAN-GIZ project on Clean Air for Smaller Cities. She has also been a member of WMO’s Group of Experts on the Scientific Aspects of Marine Environment Protection (GESAMP). She has attended over 20 international conferences, mostly as invited presenter and representative. She is currently an associate member of the Royal Meteorological Society.
