Regional Workshop on Awareness-raising and Capacity-building to Support the ABS Mechanism under CBD Nagoya Protocol

, CAS, is organizing a ‘Regional Workshop on Awareness Raising and Capacity Building to Support the ABS Mechanism under CBD Nagoya Protocol’ 15–17 May, in Chengdu, China.

Participants at the workshop will include representatives from partner countries where ICIMOD’s transboundary projects are operational (Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan); resource persons from China, India, and Nepal, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity: the ABS Capacity Development Initiative of GIZ, Natural Justice, and ICIMOD. 

Objectives:

  • Exchange and share experience about the ratification and implementation of the Nagoya Protocol on ABS
  • Bring countries together in a regional forum to discuss and identify common transboundary and other issues related to ABS and the corresponding challenges at the national level
  • Discuss important articles of the Nagoya Protocol and develop some guidance to move forward
  • Review and strengthen the institutional mechanism for implementation
Expected Outcome

By the end of this workshop, the participants will have clear ideas on important issues relevant to the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol and an effective ABS mechanism in the transboundary landscape of Kailash Sacred Landscape as well as other identified critical.
