Technical Coordinator, Afghanistan, SERVIR HKH,
Mountain Environment Regional Information System (MENRIS)
The Kabul office is the core of Afghanistan activities for SERVIR HKH, and as Technical Coordinator for SERVIR HKH in Afghanistan, I coordinate the technical aspects of SERVIR activities in Afghanistan both with national partners and donors and report on SERVIR Afghanistan component achievements, issues and messages from our national partners. I also coordinate in order to avoid duplication and cooperate in overlapped areas.
How do you protect the pulse of the planet?
My work promotes best practices of Earth observation application in agriculture, water management and land use/land cover and ecosystems, which facilitates informed and timely decisions by providing accurate information. With the use of Earth observing satellites, we can contribute to sustainable use of our natural resources to keep the pulse of our planet healthy.
What is your favorite part of the work you do at ICIMOD?
I enjoy being part of the work we do for our country using the resources of NASA and other science partners. In addition, I enjoy using the Earth observing science for better decision making, since it can also contribute even in saving human lives through providing timely information for informed decisions.
What are you passionate about?
My passion is to learn new things in the field of Earth observation and ICIMOD is the best place to give you new opportunities.
Most of my experience is in Earth observation and its applications in various domains like agriculture, crop statistics, water resources management, urban planning, agromet and disaster management. Currently I am focused on project management, coordination and reporting within the SERVIR HKH initiative based in Kabul, Afghanistan. In addition, I was a core member of the team which formulated the National Irrigation Program and the national hydromet data sharing policy of Afghanistan. I hold an M.Sc degree in Water Management from NWFP Agricultural University Peshawar, Pakistan and a one year diploma in leadership from Morning Star USA based in Kabul.
