Geospatial Associate Data Science, Geospatial Solutions
As a Geospatial Associate in Data Science, my work focuses on machine learning and includes conducting literature review on machine learning approaches used in geospatial data and accumulating ideas on achieving solutions to real world problems. At the moment, I’m also working on solving image classification and object detection problems using machine learning approaches, performing pre- and post-processing of geospatial data for machine learning and deep learning workflows and running models using Google’s tensorflow library.

How do you protect the pulse of the planet?
Data driven solutions help to expand our knowledge and research and I believe I protect the pulse of the planet through my own studies on data driven approaches and through identifying solutions using the latest machine learning approaches.
What is your favorite part of the work you do at ICIMOD?
I feel that I’ve gotten a golden chance at ICIMOD to play with data and run various machine learning models, which has been my dream job. I love ICIMOD’s wonderful people across diverse themes and regional programmes working on inter-disciplinary research topics and contributing to protecting the pulse of the planet in their own interesting ways.
What are you passionate about?
I believe that being passionate about something is an evolutionary process. Prior to joining ICIMOD, I was very much into R and data visualization and now I am into machine learning using Python.
My qualifications
I hold a Master’s degree in environmental and natural resources from Kathmandu University, Nepal and I also hold a Master’s degree in high performance and scientific computing from Swansea University, United Kingdom, as a Chevening Scholar.
