Research Associate GIS Developer,
I am responsible for data visualization application and story map development and for processing of data and metadata for entry into our open access data repository Regional Database System (RDS). I also provide technical support to colleagues in the creation of metadata and the development of story maps.
How do you protect the pulse of the planet?
I protect the pulse of the planet through my work publishing and sharing data, metadata information and story maps that enable researchers and other interested people to access and easily understand important up-to-date and comprehensive data and information.
What is your favorite part of the work you do at ICIMOD?
Working here at ICIMOD holds great advantage for knowledge sharing and understanding the multicultural, environmental, and livelihood of the region. To be involved in different groups and diverse kinds of work nature of organization makes me more productive and excited to work, which is beneficial for both my professional and personal growth.
What are you passionate about?
I’m passionate about trekking, music, physical fitness and programming. I always try to find a suitable destination during long holidays to go for a long trek, and when that’s not possible, I’ll go for a short hike.
After the completion of my Bachelor of Information Technology from Purbanchal University, Biratnagar, Nepal, I worked as an intern in Nyatapol Technologies in web development using PHP for 3 months before joining ICIMOD.
Since 2010, I have been working in different positions in ICIMOD where I have gained many experiences in the field of programming, GIS, databases, web application development, metadata management, metadata standards, and data visualization. I have implemented the opensource Geonetwork and the IPT toolkit for sharing geospatial and biodiversity datasets and metadata information and have developed various Python tools for ETL automation to integrate data to our data repository, RDS.
In 2019, I received the Biodiversity Data Mobilization Digital Badge by the Global Biodiversity Information Facility Secretariat and I also won third prize in the 2014 ESRI Storytelling with Maps contest under the Best Travel and Destinations category.
