My role at ICIMOD

I am working within Strengthening Water Resources Management in Afghanistan (SWaRMA) Initiative as an intern hydrologist, where I work closely with the Water Resources Department of the Ministry of Energy and Water of Afghanistan to carry out hydrological analysis, understand water balance components, and conduct water availability assessment. The information generated from my work supports decision-makers and other stakeholders in sustainable and efficient water use considering the emerging global water crisis driven by climate change and population growth.

Q:

How do you protect the pulse of the planet?

A:

I contribute to the knowledge of water resources that comes through hydrological modeling, analysing of snow and glacial melt dynamics and water resources system, which is critical to support and protect our communities suffering from adverse impacts of droughts, floods and other water-related hazards in the region.

What is your favorite part of the work you do at ICIMOD?

A:

I love my job because of the collaborative environment, and this truly creates a family environment where everybody is there , supporting each other. My job also provides me the opportunity of working and learning from great people.

What are you passionate about?

A:

I’m passionate about learning and reading books. I take some time in the evening and try to find time each weekend to read books. Learning helps me to expand my knowledge and is a good way for me to relax after a busy day.

My qualifications

A:

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Hydro-meteorology from Kabul University. Before joining ICIMOD, I was working in a project on capacity enhancement for hydro-meteorological data and information management with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as a hydrological modeling team member where I learned about hydrometeorological data quality control and processing, hydrology analysis and water information management and statistical analysis of surface water.
