My role at ICIMOD

I work as an Intern in cryosphere with the Strengthening Water Resource Management in Afghanistan (SWaRMA) Initiative based in Afghanistan. I work on glacier mass balance analysis for the Kabul River Basin using J2000 model and was recently an active member of the glacier monitoring field team which installed an extended glacier mass balance stake in Pir-Yakh Glacier and an automatic weather station at an altitude of 4528 m.a.s.l for the first time in Afghanistan.

Q:

How do you protect the pulse of the planet?

A:

I protect the pulse of the planet in the way that I think and act because I believe that we can all make everyday energy choices that are better for our planet, health, and environment, and we can cause little to no air pollution and carbon emissions. There are many ways to help, including everything from changing our energy utility provider to installing LED bulbs and switching to a car with better fuel economy or washing clothes in cold water.

What is your favorite part of the work you do at ICIMOD?

A:

ICIMOD is full of experts and I really enjoy working with them to learn new deas, and I really like the friendly environment of the office. Its my pleasure to be part of the ICIMOD family.

A:

I like to travel, hike, and play sports in my spare time.

My qualifications

A:

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, with three years experience in hydro- meteorological data analysis and modeling through my work with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Project for Capacity Enhancement on Hydro-meteorological Information Management (HYMEP) in close collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Water of Afghanistan.
