Research Associate, Livelihoods
I work as a Research Associate under the Livelihoods Theme. Although I am broadly an environmental scientist by training, I’ve been working on specific subjects like mountain agriculture, food and nutrition security, and value chain development at ICIMOD. My area of focus is neglected and underutilized crops, which are now referred to as future-smart foods. My role at ICIMOD is to present strong evidence through research findings, disseminate knowledge, and to ensure need-based solutions.
Lipy Adhikari
How do you protect the pulse of the planet?
Climate change is a phenomenon profoundly affecting the HKH and agriculture is the most impacted sector in this regard. I am working with my team doing rigorous research on different aspects of future smart foods so as to understand the potential of these foods to combat the negative impacts of climate uncertainties in the food and nutrition security of the HKH mountain communities.
What is your favorite part of the work you do at ICIMOD?
Team work is really important when it comes to delivering meaningful results, and this is what I enjoy the most at ICIMOD.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about my research and converting the findings to ensure need-based solutions.
My qualifications
I have completed an M.Sc in environmental science from Kathmandu University, Nepal.
