My role at ICIMOD

Dr Abdul Wahid Jasra joined ICIMOD in February 2012 as a Rangeland Specialist and Team Leader-Rangeland Resources Management. During his 30 years of experience, he has worked for the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council, the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), and as a consultant for the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

While working in Pakistan, he initiated a seabuckthorn development project, the Camel Applied Research and Development Network, and the National Aridland Development and Research Institute (NADRI) to enhance the capacity of farmers as well as Pakistan’s national agricultural research and extension systems. During his work with ICARDA as a Range Ecology and Management Specialist in the Arabian Peninsula Regional Program, he worked to develop the national agricultural research and extension systems of seven countries. At ICADRA-APRP, he was involved in promoting the cultivation of local Buffel grass (Cenchrus ciliaris) as water-saving fodder, establishing seed technology units and spineless cactus nurseries for rangeland rehabilitation, and building the capacity of national partners. He holds a PhD in Rangeland Resources from Oregon State University, USA.
