    Naim Eqrar

    Naim Eqrar is the former dean of the faculty of geosciences at Kabul University, Afghanistan. He has developed several course materials as a national training expert for various agencies and supervised more than 50 training courses. He is a member of the Supreme Council of Water and Environment of Afghanistan (SCoWE), National Hydrological Committee of Afghanistan (NHCA) and has also served on the steering committee of various water resources projects in water line ministries of Afghanistan. Eqrar is also the chairperson of the Upper Indus Basin Network (UIBN), an informal knowledge and research network of national and international researchers working in the upper reaches of the Indus basin.

    Eqrar published a book, “Resources, Hydropolitics and Water Structure of Afghanistan”, in Persian, in January 2021 and also published two textbooks, ‘Hydrogeology’ and ‘Sedimentary petrography’ for Kabul University between 2015 and 2019. He has also authored a chapter of the book, “Trans-boundary water resources of Afghanistan: climate change impact and land use implications” which was published by Nebraska University in 2016. His PhD at Boon University is in its final stages. Eqrar holds a Master’s degree in Hydrogeology from the Kabul Polytechnic University, Afghanistan.

    A.P. Dimri

    A.P. Dimri is a professor at the School of Environmental Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, India. He has been actively working in the field of atmospheric science for the past three decades. His primary research interest includes winter weather and climate using observations and modeling tools. His research interests also include regional climate dynamics and its variability, statistical and dynamical downscaling of numerical model outputs, extreme events and their physical understanding, and western disturbances. His doctoral thesis focused on winter circulation characteristics over the western Himalaya.

    Dimri is involved in various national projects on the glacio-hydrological regime of the Himalaya, extreme precipitation events such as cloudbursts, microphysical characterization of winter fog as well as mass balance modeling of the Gangotri glacier, India. He has 75 publications in peer reviewed journals and has authored 7 books/chapters in the books. Dimri is also a member of the Indian Meteorological Society and American Geophysical Union. He also served as a council member of the Indian Geophysical Union from 2014 to 2016 and has been awarded with various fellowships.

    Hina Lotia

    Hina Lotia is a development professional with over 20 years of technical experience in project implementation, research, training and capacity building, development planning, programme development, and knowledge management. She has designed and led planning and development of numerous initiatives on sustainable development, environment and climate change, water resource management, rural and urban resilient development, and knowledge networks. She has successfully managed projects and programmes across Asia, including Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, and parts of Central and Southeast Asia. She has designed, developed, and rolled out a multitude of training and capability enhancement programmes at national and international platforms. She is a member of the AGWA Strategic Advisory Council and various other networks and associations.

    Tayib Bromand

    Tayib Bromand is a Water Resources and Climate Change Specialist at the National Water Affairs Regulation Authority (NWARA), Afghanistan. He holds over 10 years of research experience with a focus on water resource management in the Kabul River basin. He has co-authored several research papers on the Kabul basin, primarily exploring the impacts of climate change on hydrology and water availability. He is also on the research board for the Afghanistan National Water & Environmental Research Center (ANWERC), which conducts research on hydrology, water availability, and climate change. He has received awards from the World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology (WASET) and NWARA for climate and hydrology studies. He is a Co-coordinator of the Upper Indus Basin Network (UIBN) – Afghanistan Chapter and was a key member of the SWaRMA project, an initiative which created learning opportunities to strengthen best practices of integrated water resources management in the Kabul basin. He holds a master’s degree in hydrology studies from Ritsumeikan University, Japan.

    Farhet Ahmad Shaheen

    Farhet Ahmad Shaheen is an Associate Professor and Senior Scientist at the School of Agricultural Economics & Business Management, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-Kashmir). At SKUAST-Kashmir, in addition to teaching and guiding MSc and PhD students on various themes, he is pursuing various projects on agriculture, climate, water, and valuation of natural capital in the north-west Himalayan part of the Indus basin. He has more than 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals besides contributions to book chapters, policy papers, and technical reports. He served as a consultant at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), Sri Lanka, on sustainable water management in the Indus basin and is a visiting scientist at the International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), India, working on comprehensive management of watershed programs in India.

    He holds a postgraduate and PhD degree in agricultural and natural resource economics. He is a Co-coordinator of Upper Indus Basin Network – India Chapter.

    Muhammad Ashraf

    Muhammad Ashraf is an Agricultural Engineer with more than 25 years of research and development experience in water resources management in arid and semi-arid areas. He has worked for the integrated management of water resources, particularly surface and groundwater resources in the irrigated and dry (rainfed) areas. More specifically, his work focuses on soil and water conservation, hydro-salinity, surface and groundwater assessment studies, conjunctive use of surface and groundwater, soil salinity, wastewater management, irrigation scheduling, crop water requirements, land and water productivity, rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, watershed management.

    Ashraf has worked with provincial and national organizations such as On Farm Water Management (OFWM) Punjab and Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), and for international organizations such as International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and International Centre for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA). He is also the Editor of the journal Paddy and Water Environment published by Springer. Currently, he is working as Chairman, PCRWR.

    Ashraf graduated from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, and has a Ph.D. from the University of Newcastle, UK. He has over 100 publications to his credit.

    Zofeen T. Ebrahim

    Zofeen T. Ebrahim is an independent journalist who has written extensively on women’s reproductive health, child rights, minority rights, labour rights, women’s work, and their empowerment. Her work focuses on finding links between issues like water scarcity, depletion of natural resources, loss of biodiversity, agriculture, sea pollution, renewable energy, and climate change and how these issues impact communities.

    Ebrahim contributes regularly to Pakistan’s largest national English daily (Dawn) as well as several international media organisations such as IPS, The Guardian, The Third Pole, and the Thomson Reuters Foundation. She has been commended nationally and internationally for her work on development issues.
