Bangladesh

The People’s Republic of Bangladesh is a founding member of ICIMOD, along with seven other member states. Bangladesh has been a partner of ICIMOD since its inception and has been helping to meet its major objectives of poverty alleviation and environmental conservation in the Hindu Kush Himalayas. Bangladesh contributes core support to ICIMOD, with the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs (MoCHTA) as the designated nodal agency. The  Secretary of MoCHTA  represents the Government of Bangladesh in the ICIMOD Board of Governors.

TheBangladesh-ICIMOD collaboration covers a broad range of activities from knowledge sharing to income generation, livelihood improvement, watershed management, and disaster risk reduction, adaptation to climate change, capacity building and skills development in many sectors including space applications and hydro-meteorological monitoring and regional cooperation. ICIMOD’s engagement in Bangladesh in both strategic and programmatic. At the strategic level, ICIMOD engages with key organizations on strategic issues of importance to Bangladesh. At the programmatic level, it brings regional knowledge and expertise to bear on hill and mountain issues in Bangladesh to find solutions to problems in collaboration with national partners.

ICIMOD`s partner institutions in Bangladesh include government agencies, development agencies, academic and research institutions, universities, NGOs and private sector.

Regional Programme 1: Adaptation to Change

Enhance resilience and support adaptation of vulnerable mountain communities and ecosystems, especially to climate change.

Regional Programme 3: River Basins

Economic and social benefits derived from water resources in an equitable manner while conserving and, where necessary, restoring freshwater ecosystems.

Regional Programme 4: Cryosphere and Atmosphere

Regional cryosphere knowledge hub to collate and share knowledge of partners working in the region, and to build capacity to study the cryosphere.

Regional Programme 5: Mountain Environment Regional Information System (MENRIS)

Enable use of information and knowledge for policies and practices through support from a regional information system in the HKH region.
