26 May: Future Direction of ICIMOD towards Sustainable Mountain Development – Focus on the Indian Himalaya Region, Gangtok, Sikkim, India

ICIMOD organized a special session on the Future Direction of ICIMOD towards Sustainable Mountain Development – Focus on the Indian Himalaya Region immediately after the conclusion of the Sustainable Mountain Development Summit-2012 in Gangtok, Sikkim, India. The session was chaired by Mr P.D. Rai, Member of Parliament from Sikkim, and co-chaired by Mr B.M.S. Rathore, Joint Secretary of the Indian Ministry of Environment and Forests. The objective was to share ICIMOD’s new strategic framework with a wider range of stakeholders in the Indian Himalayan Region. There were over 50 participants, including experts and representatives from lead institutions and civil society. The participants gave valuable suggestions for implementation of ICIMOD programmes in the Indian Himalayan Region, including identification of new partners, field-based research on the state of the ecosystem, and community outreach.
