28 November 2011: Training Workshop on Principles and Applications of GIS and Remote Sensing at Karakoram International University, Gilgit, Pakistan

Dr Salma Durrani, Chairperson, Department of Environmental Sciences, Karakoram International University, inaugurated  a training workshop on Principles and Applications of GIS and Remote Sensing at the Karakoram International University (KIU) on 28 November 2011.

The five-day training workshop was organised by ICIMOD and 20 faculty members from different departments of the university attended. The objective of the training was to strengthen the faculty's knowledge in contemporary GIS and Remote Sensing applications and to later launch formal GIS/ Remote Sensing courses at master’s level in KIU. 

In her opening remarks, Dr Salma appreciated the support that KIU has received from ICIMOD with regard to introducing GIS and Remote Sensing and highlighted the importance of mountain specific knowledge for Karakoram International University.
