ICIMOD and the Himalayan Adventure Trust of Japan (HAT-J) co-hosted the ‘Himalaya-Changing Landscapes’ photo exhibition from 26-27 July 2011 at the Pacifico Yokohama Convention Center in Yokohama City, Japan. The exhibition – with captions in Japanese – was held on the occasion of the Third International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific (ISAP 2011)  organised by the Institute for Global Environment Strategies (IGES) and United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS). It was supported by the Embassy of Nepal in Japan and the Foundation for Earth Environment.

According to the coordinator, Mr Ken Ichiro Noda of HAT-J, more than 150 forum participants (scientists, research workers, NGO members and government officials) viewed the photo exhibition. Participants appreciated the clear visualisation of the impact of global warming and the changes in people’s lives. The exhibit elicited comments on the difficulty of sustaining local culture with modernisation, and on the pressures of urbanisation on the environment.
