As a Cryosphere Monitoring Lead under geospatial solutions for the Cryosphere Initiative, Sher works closely with the programme coordinator to monitor glaciers (inventory, temporal changes, and mass balance), glacial lakes, and snow variations. He also studies the link between glaciers and water resources and related hazards in the Hindu Kush Himalaya. Sher has more than nine years of experience in remote sensing data applications for various earth resources, particularly glaciers, snow, crops, and associated natural disasters. He completed his PhD from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in glaciology and his postdoctoral research from Yunnan University, China. Prior to his PhD, he worked at Pakistan’s National Space Agency. He has published research papers in SCI/SCIE journals. In his spare time, Sher enjoys playing cricket and reading.
