Capacity Building

Training and capacity building are integral parts of the SERVIR-HKH initiative. The initiative organizes trainings in the development and use of science applications for partner institutions and end users to maximize the benefit of geospatial information and technology in the region.

The initiative provides technical support and conducts customized trainings, and shares opportunities according to the needs of its regional partners.

SERVIR-HKH strengthens ICIMOD to better work with national institutions in the HKH. Capacity building efforts organised under SERVIR-HKH focus primarily on one of more of the four thematic areas—Agriculture and Food Security; Water Resources and Hydro-climatic Disasters; Land Cover, Land Use Change, and Ecosystems; and Weather and Climate Services.

Strengthening User Engagement

SERVIR considers user engagement as a vital element in the design and implementation of its products and services. Activities to achieve this result focus on stakeholder engagement to increase buy-in related to data sharing and management, developing and adopting standards of practices, and strengthening or developing appropriate platforms for sustained upscaling and enhancing product uptake. A User Engagement Strategy is being developed as an important component and engagement with the users as a means to support SERVIR-HKH’s objectives to enhance its impacts. The Strategy is a framework for effective stakeholder engagement in different phases of service planning and design to ensure the products are co-created, co-designed and co-implemented.

Some of the key activities under the user engagement process include the following:

  • Develop framework and user engagement activities to ensure effective stakeholder engagement in different phases of service planning and design while applying the partnering approach;
  • Identify stakeholders and coordinate needs assessment exercises. Regular update and reporting on user engagement activities. Regularly contribute information to the user database and other knowledge management tools related to user engagement and outreach;
  • Design approaches and templates that guide systematic user engagement as well as working closely with other key personnel to define roles and responsibilities for completing user engagement tasks. Ensure that all SERVIR activities incorporate user engagement components in their design and implementation of products and services.
