Training Course on Field Techniques and Data Tools for Monitoring Permafrost

The University of Zurich and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF), Kathmandu University, and Tribhuvan University conducted a training at Kathmandu University to introduce permafrost and related natural hazards, and to teach methods of modelling and monitoring high mountain environments to a group of 25 participants. 

Objectives

  • Introduce permafrost and related natural hazards
  • Introduce methods of modelling and monitoring high mountain environments with examples from recent field work in the Himalaya and experience from European/New Zealand Alps
  • Cover data tools and methods used in the monitoring of high mountain environments through hands on exercises
