Mats Eriksson joined ICIMOD in December 2016 as the Regional Programme Manager for the Regional Programme on Cryosphere and Atmosphere.
Eriksson, a Swedish citizen, is a geographer with more than 25 years of experience in environmental assessment, and management and sustainable development. In his research, he has focuses primarily on climate change and water, and cryosphere and glacial morphology. He has also studied people’s adaptations to change and resilience, particularly to water-induced hazards.
Before moving to Nepal, Eriksson worked with the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) as the Programme Director for climate change and water, and the water, food, energy nexus. He has also worked for the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), focusing primarily on regional water resources and transboundary water cooperation. He was previously associated with ICIMOD from 2005 to 2010.
