Shahzada Irfan Ahmed

Shahzada Irfan Ahmed is a journalist based in Lahore, Pakistan, and works as an Assistant Editor cum Senior Reporter with The News on Sunday, the weekly section of Pakistan’s leading English daily, The News.

 He writers on different issues ranging from the environment, ecotourism and climate change to poverty, gender, equity, human rights and governance.

 His association with The News spans over a decade. Before joining the organization, he worked as a commerce desk in-charge at Daily Sun, Lahore, a senior staff reporter at Daily Times, and news editor at – a website launched with the support of South Asian Free Media Association (Safma).

 He also works as a stringer with The Wall Street Journal and a correspondent with IPS feature service. He regularly contributes to and The Third Pole (TTP). As well, Ahmed has worked on an assignment-to-assignment basis with the UK’s Channel 4, National Geographic, and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), USA. He won the Daniel Pearl Fellowship in 2009 and got an opportunity to work as a staff reporter at the daily Houston Chronicle, in Houston, Texas, USA as well. He is an alumnus of the “Innovation in Journalism Programme” launched at Stanford University, California, in 2009.

 In 2008, he was shortlisted as a finalist by the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) for the Development Asia Journalism Awards (DAJA) held in Tokyo, Japan. Ahmed has also reported extensively from abroad and travelled to the US, Finland, Italy, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Russia, Japan, India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Nepal and Malaysia for work.
