Kanchan Shrestha joined ICIMOD in June 2015 as Programme Officer for the Koshi Basin Initiative. She holds a Bachelor of Biology from University of Texas in Arlington and a Master of Environmental Science from Yale University. Before joining ICIMOD, she worked in community development with dZi Foundation serving remote eastern parts of Nepal. She has also worked as an environmental consultant with the United States Environmental Protection Agency on floodplain restoration and ecosystem services and has experience in stakeholder engagement, programme management and advocacy through her work for The Small Earth Nepal and United Nations Mission in Nepal. After completing her bachelor’s degree, she worked in qualitative river assessment in Nevada and conducted summer research at the Arctic Long Term Ecological Research Station in Alaska.
