Sonam Futi Sherpa joined ICIMOD in January 2015 as an intern under Dr Patrick Wagnon (L’Institut de Recherche pour le Développement – IRD) in the Water and Air Theme . Originally from Khumjung, in the Solukhumbu District of Nepal, she holds a BSc (Honours) in Environmental Science from Kathmandu University and is currently pursuing an MS c by research in glaciology, also with Kathmandu University, which is a capacity building programme under ICIMOD’s Cryosphere Management Project. Ms Sherpa is doing her thesis on an ‘Energy Balance Model for Mera Glacier situated in Hinku valley, Solukhumbu District’. Her other research interests include the study of glacial lakes, GLOFs, and the role of climate change.
