Stakeholder consultations

ICIMOD organized stakeholder consultations involving government agencies, NGOs, community-based organizations, and international agencies in Kathmandu during the period 2011—2014 and in Islamabad during 2012—2014. In 2015, stakeholder consultations will be organized in Bangladesh, China, and India.

Policy review

ICIMOD is supporting a group of migration experts in Bangladesh, China, Nepal, and Pakistan to review existing migration, remittance, disaster risk reduction, and climate change adaptation policies and explore opportunities to mainstream migration and remittances in climate change adaptation policies and practices.

Case study

There is a lack of empirical research on the role of labour migration and remittances in climate change adaptation in the HKH region. To better understand the complex inter-linkages between migration, remittances and climate change adaptation, case studies are being conducted in the Upper Mekong-Salween sub-basin in China, Eastern Brahmaputra sub-basin in India, Koshi sub-basin in Nepal, and Upper Indus sub-basin in Pakistan.

Action research

ICIMOD is involved in an action research that aims to build the adaptive capacity of migrant sending households in the flood affected rural areas in India, Nepal, and Pakistan through financial literacy, flood preparedness, and value chain training, as well as associated community level extension services.
