Surendra Raj Joshi is Programme Coordinator of the Himalica Initiative under the Adaptation to Climate Change Programme of ICIMOD. Dr Joshi specializes in high value crops/products as an option for improving the livelihoods of mountain and hill people of the Hindu Kush Himalayas. He has over twenty years experience in development sector with a range of programmes and projects in support of rural income diversification, livelihood improvement, and pro-poor and climate resilient value chain development of various agricultural and forestry products.
Dr Joshi started his career at ICIMOD in 1994, and then moved to work for GIZ (2006-2009), and SNV (2011-2014) in various capacities. He has provided consulting services to organisations such as the European Commission (Bangladesh), Asian Development Bank (Bhutan), SNV (Bhutan) MEDEP/UNDP (Nepal), Practical Action Consulting (Nepal). He has a PhD in Applied Natural Sciences from Austria.
