On 5 December, former ICIMOD Director Generals, ICIMOD Board members, staff, and some of the Centre’s founding fathers came together to celebrate its 30th anniversary at the ICIMOD Headquarters in Kathmandu. The celebration, organized by the Centre’s Staff Club 2013, included speeches by distinguished guests reflecting on the Centre’s history and progress, including one by one of ICIMOD’s founding fathers Dr Bruno Messerli. During the programme, Dr David Molden, Director General, received a gift of a Chinese painting on behalf of the Centre from the Director of the Secretariat of the ICIMOD-China National Committee, Prof. Hu Pinghua. Staff members who have worked at the Centre for the last 30 years were recognized and honoured, namely Chandra Bir Singh Kansakar, Shyam Shrestha, Kishore Maharjan, Bishnu Magar, Rishi KC, and Nira Gurung

Another highlight was a cultural programme consisting of seven performances ranging from solo and group dance and song sequences by ICIMOD staff. The event culminated with the performance of a special ICIMOD song, sung in different regional languages by 18 staff members from Bangladesh, China, India, Nepal, and Myanmar. The evening also included the announcement of the new Staff Club for 2014 and a cake-cutting ceremony followed by a gala dinner. The Staff Club is a group of six staff members elected by their peers to organize special events for ICIMOD staff. The 2013 Staff Club members were Mandira Shrestha, Suman Bisht, Hammad Gilani, Pradyumna Rana, Dipshikha Gurung and Shyam Shrestha
