Deo Raj Gurung, Remote Sensing Specialist at ICIMOD, took part in a two-day training of Project Managers of the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters organized by the European Space Agency (ESA) 27–28 June in Frascati, Italy. The event was attended by representatives from national space agencies, research institutes, UN agencies, and government departments. The training was part of an initiative that promotes the use of satellite data for post-disaster response support through a policy of universal access. Participants were made aware of the mechanisms of activating the Charter and the engagement of different actors, including authorized users, value adders, project managers, emergency on-duty call officers, and the Charter Secretariat.
